This research project is an assessment for BCM312: Emerging Issues in Media and Communication. Earlier in the semester, our lecturer drew my attention to the way in which "the other" (generally any minority group) is represented by the media. Simultaneously, a recommended reading for a different subject, BCM325: Future Cultures suggested that the way females are represented in memes is damaging to equality. Because I'm not generally 'offended' by memes, I thought this project would allow me to examine these artefacts via a different lens. As an avid feminist, I decided this was an area of research I wanted to contribute to.
